On March 3-4, the first stage of the World Triathlon Series of 2017 was held in the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi). The race was won by the Spaniard Javier Gomez Noya and Andrea Hewitt from New Zealand. At the prizes, Thomas Bishop of the UK and the Frenchman Vincent Luis, and women Jodie Stimpson from the UK and Sarah Vilic from Austria.
In men, the leading position in swimming was taken by the Frenchman Aurelien Raphael. Henry Schoeman and the Polyanskiy brothers finished swimming. On the bike race, after selection the leading group of 18 participants was formed, but only ten riders were the first to enter the transit zone. The leading group on the run was formed by Henry Schoeman, Javier Gomez, Thomas Bishop, Vincent Luis, Joao Pereira, Igor Polyanskiy and Andrea Salvisberg). Attack was made by Henry Schoeman, but did not calculate his strength. And closer to the finish line for the victory fought Vincent Luis, Javier Gomez and Thomas Bishop. The Frenchman fell behind the last two kilometers, and the race was won by the Spaniard. In the top five finished the Spaniard Fernando Aralza and Richard Murray from South Africa. In the top 10 Portuguese Joao Pereira, Gregory Billington from the US, Spaniard Mario Mola, Swiss Andrea Salvisberg and Henry Schoeman from South Africa.
At the first stage two groups were formed at women, and on a cycling race in a group of leaders there were ten participants. On the run, the leaders came Andrew Hewitt (NZL), Jodie Stimpson (GBR), Sarah Vilic (AUT) and Rachel Klamer (NED). Closer to the finish line leaders lost Rachel Klamer. And the victory was played by Jodie Stimpson, who first started the finish jerk and Andrea Hewitt, which was sharper at the finish and won the race. In the top 10 Ai Ueda from Japan, Gillian Backhouse from Australia, Katie Zaferes from the USA, Lisa Perterer from Austria, Yuko Takahashi from Japan and Rebecca Spence from New Zealand finished in the top 10.
