Feb. 11 early start of the season opens the first round of the World Cup race in Cape Town. This year's World Cup program includes over twenty races, a new record in the triathlon. A competition program covers all continents and starts in February and lasts until November, inclusive! Also, there is a parallel to the World Cup, when a weekend pass at once two stages on different continents. Race in Cape Town early start is different and this is the first serious start in the elite this year. Therefore, contenders for victory were a few.
Men race was won by Richard Murray who played the victory with his compatriots - Henrш Schoeman and Wian Sullwald. The very outcome of the race was decided on the run and a trio of South Africans were ready for such an outcome. Behind the hosts stayed strong triathletes such as Rafael Montoya, Lucas Pertl, Lucas Hollaus, Mark Austin, Thomas Springer, Erwin Vanderplanke, Grant Shelden and Anthony Pujades. The riders showed high competition and willingness beginning of the season. And before the first race of the World Series five more weeks, and already we are seeing such rapid results!
Women have played an English victory - Lucky Hall and Jessica Learmonth. Japanese woman Ai Ueda leaders lost half a minute at the finish. The top-10 finish Rachel Klamer, Jolanda Annen, Chelsea Burns, Margot Garabedian, Juri Ide, Erin Dolan and Yurie Matsuda. Mistress of the competition could not compete in the race.
